Carlos came to Black Iron Nutritoin with the goal of reducing body fat and improving his performance in the gym (Crossfit). He had some serious time commitments as he was studying for his engineering license, but he really committed and hit the ground running on the process. Coach Chris talks about the strategies they focused on that would include minimal additional stress and time commitment.

Being able to shift my thought process from ‘when’ to ‘what/how’ really helped all those small details add up. Regarding food, I’m even more convinced that the good feelings I have for the food I eat no matter if it’s a donut or steamed broccoli—both mmmm!—are really important for success. I thought I didn’t have time for this sort of training, but with a little focus and planning so much was accomplished.

Little did I know what I would gain throughout this process. In all my nutrition experimenting, I never worked 1:1 with a coach. That's been a game changer for me, the consistent feedback and perspective has been so helpful. Maybe it's maturity? Maybe it's magic? But I've actually enjoyed this process, and was able to drastically shift my perspective to feel like this really can be sustainable for me. That it's not just about the challenge, but really the long haul..for life.

I had actually finally accepted my body at its current size and realized that my mental health and body image was way more important than the number on the scale. For the first time in as long as I can remember I was actually fueling my body properly! And more importantly, doing it because I WANTED to.

My experience has been so amazing! I have done two 3 month cycles with Black Iron and have lost over 10 pounds this year! But my success was not only on the scale. I felt so accomplished in the gym and my body felt so strong and healthy.

I came to Black Iron Nutrition as a serial dieter, always just wanting to cut down my food to ‘look like I do CrossFit’. Instead we’ve spent 4 years building up my metabolism through eating more food, prioritising recovery and building my strength and fitness. I learned that in order to do well in CrossFit, you REALLY need to eat a lot.
