2022 NEW YEAR TRANSFORMATION CHALLENGE 3RD PLACE WINNER
Being a former college soccer player, I thought I had the fitness thing all figured out. I started training for triathlons in 2013 and completed Ironman Lake Placid in 2016. Again, I thought I had the fitness thing all figured out. After Ironman training I got back into my training regiment of going to the gym after work and working out. I would go out with friends, eat and drink everything and anything, because I thought I had it all figured out. Fast forward to 2020, when the world got flipped upside down, COVID hit, my wife and I welcomed a baby boy into the world and fitness and nutrition took a back seat. I thought I could train for hours and get the body that I once had as a college soccer player, I was wrong. In this time, I had gained 20 lbs. After the holidays in 2021, I stepped on the scale and I saw a number I never thought I would see, 207 lbs. Not only did I not like the number I saw on the scale but I didn’t like the way I looked or felt. I didn’t like how my clothes fit and I decided it was time. I signed up for the Black Iron Nutrition New Year’s Challenge. I told myself I was going to do everything and anything in these four months to see what I can achieve, and achieve I did.
I listened to everything Joyce told me in my check-ins like they were the gospel. I wanted to get the “old” Jonathan back. Week in and week out I would check all the boxes, drink water, get steps in, meal plan, train, and so on and so forth. All of the habits just became part of the day. If I didn’t get my steps in during the day I would walk at night on the treadmill after I put the little one to sleep. I would pre-log meals the night before, I would make grocery lists with my wife to execute the plan for the week ahead. Learning and understanding macros and portion control has been everything. It has changed my life forever. I feel amazing. I stepped on the scale this morning and it read 189.25. Not only have I lost weight and witnessed body composition changes, but the amount of knowledge I have gained is indescribable.
