Health & fitness have always been an important part of my life. Growing up in a world of dance & gymnastics, it was difficult to find good information about how to properly fuel my body, which translated to confusion surrounding food into my adult life. For years I struggled with eating the right amount to support my level of activity. Whether it be too much at some times, or too little at others. BIN & Carly came into my life at the perfect time. I was overtraining, eating too much & not focusing on good quality foods that would help to sustain the balanced, healthful life I desired. I started Black Iron with the goal of dropping the few extra pounds I had picked up over the last few years. I can honestly say now, that after being a part of this program, I am a completely different person. My weight has become just a number & I have picked up so many new, more helpful habits, & markers to measure my success. Carly has helped me understand how my body works & why it responds the way it does to different amounts & kinds of food. Although we did cut for a short while, we have spent a majority of the time at my maintenance calories. Working together, I began to add in more variety & and began eating 2 servings of fruits & veggies a day. Although it seems small, this was such a huge victory for me mentally after being so restrictive with my eating before. Not to mention the fact that as I was working on my relationship with food, my performance in the gym steadily increased. Suddenly, I was hitting new PRs & noticing an increase in my aerobic capacity! I really am proud of the progress that I have made. I feel so much more confident in myself, which in turn has made me a better athlete, partner, teacher, & human.
