I started BIN shortly after having my second baby, during a time when I was feeling my most vulnerable and anxious about the journey I had ahead of me to full recovery and fitness (I’m a 42 year old ex-Thai boxer at national level and now a mediocre CrossFitter). I’d done the postpartum journey before with my first baby and I knew it would take a lot of patience and time on my behalf. I was following a metabolic flexibility program before my second pregnancy and yes it worked, but I followed it blindly without really understanding the principles so it didn’t last. I also didn’t feel I got the feedback I needed. After hearing about Black Iron Nutrition from the inspirational athletes and mothers I followed on Instagram (Quiana Welch was one such bad ass lady) it all made much more sense to me. I sat up during the late nights with my new baby reading Krissy’s Flexible Dieting 2.0 book and was keen to sort my s*** out. I found it really simple to set up and follow, and over the past year Chelsi has been my coach and she has given me a perfectly balanced combination of a kick up my arse when I’m being lazy and kind words and understanding when I’ve needed it the most. Her knowledge of the nuances of eating not just to drop or gain weight but also the stuff I need to feel and do better in the gym and daily life has been invaluable to me and I feel like I’ve learned so much. I have also appreciated that for the first entire year of being coached by Chelsi, I wanted to stay in maintenance the whole time whilst I was breastfeeding my baby as I knew hormones would interfere with any changes I tried to make to my diet and how frustrating this would be. She was entirely supportive and understanding if not a bit boring for her! Once we hit my first fat loss phase and upped my training again I went from 70kg to 61kg in about three months. I’m now looking forward reverse dieting with Chelsi and seeing some bigger numbers on the barbell!
