The turning point for me came early one morning in December of 2021, when, while getting ready to depart for a tropical island vacation I weighed myself and my luggage to determine if it was overweight. The bag wasn’t but I was SHOCKED at the number I saw for myself. It shouldn’t have come as a surprise, I wasn’t feeling great, my clothes fit horribly, I was eating pretty much whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and blaming how I felt on perimenopause. My husband and I OWN a gym, I work out five to seven days a week and have for years, what could be my issue? For the entire vacation I pondered my discontent and came to the realization that NO ONE IS GOING TO DO THIS FOR ME. If I want to make a change, I’m a damn adult and I needed to COMMIT to that change.
I have lurked in the shadows as a fan of Black Iron Nutrition for year so I signed up in the airport on my way home from vacation, exactly two weeks before Christmas! I knew that paying each month and having a neutral third party hold me accountable would keep me on track. I chose to work with Morgan and haven’t looked back. To say that my coach has been a guiding factor in improving my health, my overall relationship with food and my food choices is an understatement. There were some tough love moments in the beginning where I was concentrating on tiny little measurements, not really seeing the overall picture and she had to keep me in check. I wasn’t eating enough of the RIGHT foods and she guided me through a reverse diet that had me eating more than I maybe ever have, all while seeing body composition changes, feeling good in the gym and feeling more myself in my body as a whole. Food variety is a struggle for me, I’m a rather picky eater but on this journey I’ve discovered I actually like more than I think I do. I no longer have cravings and don’t feel like I’m limiting myself. I’ve gone on vacation, had special occasions, regularly eaten at restaurants, frequently allow myself to indulge in little treats and have STILL seen positive overall changes. I’ve always been aware that food FUELS my body for what I’m asking of it but Morgan has really made me see how important food quality, consistency and repeated actions are to making changes.
I’m not finished, there’s more to do as I work to build lean muscle mass. I’ve improved physically and mentally in the last 7 months and I’m looking forward to seeing what further changes I can make with Morgan’s guidance, of course!
