LAUREN STEPPE, MS, CNS, LDN
she/her
Lauren grew up in northern Virginia just outside of Washington, DC. She was constantly active as a child starting with dance and volleyball. She transitioned to rowing in high school and competed up to the national level as well as competing in Canada. She continued rowing recreationally for two years in college on a club team during the summers.
In 2014, Lauren completed her undergrad degree in Business Economics and Public Policy and earned an additional degree in Operations Management with a minor in Environmental Management at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. After graduation, she relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to start her new job as a warehouse manager for a large company and resided there for 2 years. During that time, she got back into Crossfit after being exposed to it in high school. She saw how much Crossfit improved her rowing performance and she wanted to get back into the same shape she was in prior to college.
During those two years, Lauren began changing her diet to improve her performance. This led her to become extremely passionate about all things nutrition. She began researching career paths in nutrition and finally decided to quit her job and move back to the DC area to take another job that would give her time to go back to school. At the same time, changing her diet led to some disordered eating habits via restricting a lot of foods and the amounts she was eating. She developed hypothalamic amenorrhea, hormone imbalances, multiple GI problems and liver dysfunction.
It took several years and a lot of lifestyle changes for Lauren to regain her health. Black Iron Nutrition had a huge impact on her journey. She starting working with Coach Jess in 2019, focusing on eating more and exercising less. Eventually, Lauren finally got her cycle back and her hormone levels significantly improved. She now has a much better relationship with food, exercise, and body image and has found more balance in her life. After almost a year of being a client, she began her BINternship with Coach Marisa. Through this experience, Lauren discovered how many other people struggled with similar issues surrounding body image and athletic performance as she did and her desire to help others grew even more.
Lauren graduated with a Masters in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine from the University of Western States in 2020. She then completed her supervised practice and passed her board exam in 2022 to become a CNS (Certified Nutrition Specialist). She is very passionate about helping others optimize their health, finding balance in life, and working on mindset in relation to body image.
Lauren currently resides in the Washington, DC area working full-time as a financial admin at state university. When she has free time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, baking, hiking, and stand-up paddleboarding.
